Comfort in Uncertain Times

Human beings like to thing that they are self-sufficient. Going through sickness, pandemics, and other troubles of life vividly proves to mankind that he is very, very small.

The natural response of humanity when troubles come is to look inward or outward to someone or something other than God for help, comfort and hope. The reality is that nothing and no one other than God can give lasting, true comfort.

Lasting, true comfort is found in God and revealed in the Bible, God's Word.

The Bible reveals one of the greatest messages of hope and comfort--the New Heaven and the New Earth, the eternal resting home for those who have been saved by God's grace.

Revelation 21:1-4 states, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.' And He who sits on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' And He said, 'Write, for these words are faithful and true.'" (NASB, 1995 update.)

There will be a day when all the effects of sin are removed. Everything will be perfect for all eternity.

Do not dwell on how bad the circumstances are right now. If you do, you will only become depressed. Instead, read about heaven, your glorified body which awaits, and the eternal home which has been reserved for you (John 14, Romans 8, Revelation 21).

If you have never trusted in Jesus as Savior, you do not have this hope or comfort. The Bible states in Ephesians 2:8, 9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." (NASB) Additionally John 3:16 declares, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (NASB). You can only have hope and comfort by trusting in Jesus Christ as Savior. Trust Him now and He will give you eternal life.
